structuralism.

Structuralism is a method or approach of interpretation and analysis that helps us to  understand the basic structure of it. If we see the skeleton of different  religious people there is no slight different in structure of skeleton. In this way if we take any literary text, movie or any literary serials or reality shows they shows reality in different way but the structure to show that is the same.

Being  a  structuralist critic I would like to say that structuralism is a starting point for reading literature than are other approaches because fictionality does not have to be shown that inherent in the text, but in the way it is read. It explains how the sentence can different meaning depending on the genre in which it appears. But the  basic structure of the text can not change from age to age. In every text we can find beginning , middle, and the ends. No matter how the text belongs to any genre.  We may apply structuralism in literary text that are Macbeth, Frekenstein, Dr. Fastus they all quest for knowledge and power to being superior. And that quest leads them to the death.

There are many structralist critics like Ferdinand Sassure, Genette, Claude-levi-strauss, Roland Barthes in their work we find 1) order, 2)Frequency
3 Duration, 4) voice, 5) mood, in movies we find these five elements that help us to understand the basic structure of movie. Sometimes we find that events of movie were arranged chronologically . sometimes we may notice that sequence of events may change but at final we meet with certain end. And these disarrangements on the level of order are termed ‘ anachrony’. In movies we find some techniques like discovery , flashback , and resolution that three elements were imply on movie 3 Idiots. Another example of it is crime patrol that has same structure in every episodes but they do changes in representing the events.

Structralist critic also apply the concept of systematic patterning and structuring to the whole field of western culture and across culture, treating as ‘system of signs’. we can see in advertisement of Arial powder tag line that “ Daag achhe hai” in our myths ‘Daag’ point out character of women and by launching this advertisement we may find another perspective to look at ‘Daag’.

The Dance of the Eunuchs.

The Dance of the Eunuchs - Kamala Das. Summary- Included in the collection Summer in Calcutta(1965), 'Dance of the Eunuchs' is one of the most remarkable poems of Kamala Das. This is another autobiographical poem written in confessional style that symbolically portrays the poetess's personal melancholy in her own life.  'Dance of the Eunuchs' vividly conjures up the atmosphere of a hot, tortured, corrupt, sterile and barren world through vivid symbols and images. The dance of the eunuchs whose joyless life reflects the poet‘s fractured personality is a noticeable piece of autobiographical poetry. Kamala Das has vividly visualized the world of vacant ecstasy and sterility through numerous functional images and symbols in her poetry. In fact Eunuchs try to eke out a livelihood by dancing. Their dancing is mechanical and painful. The conditions and the climate are forbidding. The spectators are merciless. Even God seems to add their woes. The eunuchs...

The Mystic Drum.

The Mystic Drum - Gabriel Okara. About Poet. Gabriel Okara is a Nigerian poet and novelist   Okara’s   Poetry  is based on a series of contrasts in which symbols are neatly balanced against each other. The need to  reconcile   the extremes of experience (life and death are common themes) preoccupies his verse, and a typical poem has a circular movement from everyday reality to a moment of joy and back to reality again. Summary. The drum in African poetry, generally stands for the spiritual pulse of traditional African life. The poet asserts that first, as the drum beat inside him, fishes danced in the rivers and men and women danced on the land to the rhythm of the drum. But standing behind the tree, there stood an outsider who smiled with an air of indifference at the richness of their culture. However, the drum still continued to beat rippling the air with quickened tempo compelling the dead to dance and sing with their shadows. The ancestral gl...

Minority

Minority- Imtiaz Dharker I was born a foreigner. I carried on from there to become a foreigner everywhere I went, even in the place planted with my relatives, six-foot tubers sprouting roots, their fingers and faces pushing up new shoots of maize and sugar cane. All kinds of places and groups of people who have an admirable history would, almost certainly, distance themselves from me. I don’t fit, like a clumsily translated poem; like food cooked in milk of coconut where you expected   Ghee or cream, the unexpected aftertaste of cardamom or neem   . There’s always a point that where the language flips into an unfamiliar taste; where words tumble over a cunning tripwire on the tongue; were the frame slips, the reception of an image not quite tuned, ghost-outlined, that signals, in their midst, an alien. And so I scratch, scratch through the night, at this growing scab on black and white. E...
